Federal Aviation Administration Requirements

bulletBe at least 16 years old.
bulletBe able to read, write, and understand the English language

In addition, you must obtain a third class medical certificate from a Designated Medical Examiner. (this is also your Student Pilot Certificate when endorsed by your Instructor) in order to solo an aircraft

To be eligible for a Private Pilot Certificate, you must:

bulletBe at least 17 years old
bulletBe able to read, write, and understand English
bulletPass a knowledge test on aeronautical knowledge
bulletReceive flight training from an Certified Flight Instructor
bulletHave flight experience that includes: At least 40 hours of flight time that includes a minimum of 20 hours of dual instruction (with a Certified Flight Instructor) and a minimum of 10 hours of solo flight time.
bulletPass a practical flight examination with a Designated Examiner
